Full Throttle or Broke!
Dunedin Causeway Questions
«

I read about low tide issues, I'm guessing it's harder to launch/load at low tide. I use a 4x4 Nissan Titan to pull my ski. Also, on any given Saturday, what time should one arrive before spots start filling up? Thinking about heading there this Saturday.
Thanks.

They have made it more difficult to get into the Causeway launch area. The left turn at the bottom of the bridge is now blocked, so you have to proceed farther west and make a U-turn to get access to the causeway launch area. When you turn into the launch area, turn left and go as far as possible (back towards the bridge), as the slope is a little better in this area. At low tide, with the shallow slope, you sometimes need to back your car so far into the water that your rear wheels are under water. This is VERY bad for the brake drums/discs and anything else metal. Be sure to rinse these areas fully after returning home. Most people that launch here do not have 4WD, and it is rarely a problem getting stuck. Even those that do, there are plenty of people around to help push. The causeway fills up on the weekends, so the sooner you arrive the better. I am always there before 9 AM, so it is unclear to me when it gets full, but I would say get there before 11 AM at the latest.
Wish I could join you, but there are already plans to ride across the state this weekend.
